From the pictures, looks like a great, fun car to drive the family around.

That's a really nice car. Hope those side mirrors actually work well.

I watched that sale and thought the amount it sold for was insane. As in way too much... car is not that nice if you look closely.
I mean... good for the seller....

Mike,

Curious what your eye pointed out as someone who knows these cars so well. What do you think would have a been a fair value of it as it sits?

Tim

I know you didn't ask me but I'll throw in my thoughts anyway.:)

I think Mike and I think alike in a few ways, when it comes to authenticity or quality. I know not every car is going to be perfect or authentic and that is perfectly fine. My cars are not perfect by any means.

For myself the interior, although usable, clean and nice, is not of authentic materials. The engine bay is kind of a mess. Needs details sorted. The chassis, wow, a wreck for me. I won't get into all of that, it would take too long.

Most folks say well who cares, you're too particular. I guess if I were going to spend $17,000 on a car, for myself, I would want it to be a more accurate representation of a '39 Ford. I'm a purist a**hole, however.

I'll follow that up by saying, could you put that car together for $18,000. No way. It would cost 3x that or more, If I wanted it to be 100% authentic. If you're not worried about that than you have an argument.

What!?! Next you'll tell me the models in magazine photos and on tv don't really look like in person...

Many things are amiss on this car. I am judging value fair what it is, NOT for what I desire.
This car is what I call "putting lipstick on a pig". Might be pretty at first glance but look close and well, it's a pig.
When this car went past $11k, I shook my head and came to see (again) some folks have more money than smarts.
Hey, I do hope the new owner is happy and for the price of admission, well, not a large sum to play with. As long as that person is happy, great.

Australian 1939 Ford V8 Coupe Sedan.
Notice the description doesn't mention Standard?
As for value, this very rare example just sold for over double the price of the 1939 Deluxe Tudor Sedan in question sold for.

I guess that's where I'm looking at it. Besides the obvious paint issue between the front glass, it seems like a good jumping in point for someone if it does indeed look like the pictures in real life and drives like it does in the video.

That is a lot of sheet metal and you'd be into paint and materials for a little over 1/2, if not more, of the selling price.

Some of the issues could be corrected by the owner in order to make it their own.

I spent over $20,000.00 on a paint job a few years ago, and it wasn't anything real fancy.

I enjoy my '39 "thrifty 60"...although it's not stock, the 350/350/9"/PDB/PS/ sure
goes better & stops better. Not for sale but $22k would get my attention here in San Diego.

Wow, if I was paying attention I would have bought that (maybe haha).

Edit. Ok I got excited for a minute. I think kube is on to something. I actually went back and looked closer.

Re: A good buy at $17,250.00

While the body has been finished very nicely, it appears to have missed an important step in preparation, that being the pre-fitting before paint. This is probably Kube's complaint. Set-up as a driver, it should still have better fitting body parts.
