Restorer Magazine

I get the magazine and they have great detailed information that is helpful. I think it would be good if I had access to all of their information with a searchable index. I got on the MAFCA site and ended in a dead end. I ended up in the following but could not find a clickable search

Welcome to the Model A Technical Index, a searchable reference of articles published in major
Model A Ford magazines. The Restorer, The Model A News, Model A Times and Skinned Knuckles.
On the Search tab below, you can type a full or partial keyword in the yellow Title keyword window

Re: Restorer Magazine

Depending upon what your restoration needs are, you can buy the many volumes of "How to Restorer Your Model A" by MAFCA, which consist of selected technical and restoration articles from past "Restorer" issues. Be forewarned, however, that many go back to the 1960's and contain information that was once believed to be correct, but has since been proven to be not so much. References to $300 engine rebuilds will also give the reader false value impressions. I think the articles stop some time in the 1980's, so you will have to find issues of "The Restorer" since then that will answer your questions.

Re: Restorer Magazine

I noted that the MAFCA "combined index" (you referenced it above) USED to have a space you could search under your desired term. Now, you have to use the "seen on this page" which is part of most web browsers. And it don't work so well.

I also see Tom Sieffert has changed it, possibly within the last day. There is a search but it's "different."

Instead the link below works better and has it's own "page turner" (you'll see it try to flip its own page) and a magnifying glass for "search." This one works better. Restorer only and Rick Black.

Middle top of page - next link. You don't even have to click it - just overlay.

Titled "Complete “The Restorer” Index"

The words are the "link" which "overlay" the page.

This is not just for johnr9q but for anyone that reads this in the future. In my brief 14 months as a Model A owner I have found that the most up to date and accurate information I have received has been from members of my local Model A club. In addition, several members have offered me their assistance, provided me with repair parts and loaned me the tools I needed to get the repairs done. This, in my opinion, has been crucial to my experience as a Model A owner.

I use both the series of books from MAFCA and from MARC. You can never have too much information during restorations.

There is NO SUBSTITUTE for the knowledge (and parts) in your local club. Online has many pitfalls. A "my new to me Model A quit" question will have you doing everything from rewiring the entire car to rebuilding the engine when in reality you just forgot to turn on the gas or key.....
The MAFCA index is a tool you can use combined with past issues. The problem arises in finding the articles. They sell a memory stick with the first 50 years of the Restorer but we're in what the 66th or 67th year now? Basically you'll be missing about 20 years of info.

I thought MARCA offered back issues on a CD, but you have to order it from their office.

Joe, normally I understand what you are talking about but in this instance I have no idea how to do what you suggest

The blue label in the middle top of the page SHOULD bring you a pdf file which used to have a search engine.

Right now I get "404 file not found" so I suspect someone is working on it.

Right below that are "bolded letters" saying basically the title - that is or was an active link. A couple of times I simply passed over it with my mouse arrow and it opened an html page which does have a search function. As I stated, the page is "automated" and if you go near the edge of the "paper" it acts like it is looking to "turn" the page. The search is at the bottom of the page and is marked with a magnifying glass.

I suspect the attention has gotten someone's effort to straighten this out - so maybe not a good night to do a lot of searching - unless you suddenly find it to work?

I just did a search for MY MAFCA Restorer flashdrive and it's gone... I think I loaned it out to someone I don't recall who now:eek:
Looks like I'm buying another one!

Re: Restorer Magazine

When you get your new one, maybe copy the files over to a backup drive? It's not that big.

I'm not buying until it's updated. I offered to scan the missing issues 3 years ago and got the reply that someone was already working on it and it was almost done. I think they are waiting until the 50th ones are gone rather than offer a new one. I pointed out they could rewrite them and stick a new label on and not lose any $ on the old one. Still waiting..........

Re: Restorer Magazine

MMMM I just read my latest issue of the Restorer. There has been a personnel change at MAFCA. The writer admitted there have been flaws and steps are underway to get things up to speed.
