take the photo differently, if the drum were to be mounted to the car, take a photo of the edge in the vertical plane. One photo straight at the edge, one photo slightly angled to right one phot to the left so we can see the curve of the edge.

The steel drum pictured has a rolled edge with a gutter (if you will) around it. On a cast iron drum the area is filled.

Is it possible to tap that with a wrench and tell by the 'sound'?

Steel will make a high pitched ring cast iron will make a lower pitched sound??

Seems like an old time mechanic told me that in the early 70's......

it IS a cast iron drum. you need to find someone with a drum gauge and measure the drum. you might get away with just having it turned.

JW, Steel. It has a large ring shrunk onto the drum which makes it look somewhat like a cast drum.

the person that has a drum gauge will know if it is CI or steel.
