1936 Ford Pickup Headlight Assembly

I'm trying to piece back together some original headlamp assemblies for my 36 Ford pickup. I am not finding any good clear diagrams online anywhere, and they definitely do not show any of the small parts required in this assembly. I need to know what retains the reflector in the assembly, and if there is supposed to be any kind of a gasket in there. This would be helpful so I can order the correct parts. Thank you.

I've attached some of the information about this headlight from my book - which is available from the Early Ford V-8 Club.

So is it the cork gasket that secures the reflector in place, no clips?

It becomes part of a compiled assembly. The bucket, then the reflector (held in place by brass clips), then the square cork gasket, then the lens is held on the steel rim by the 3 clips and the steel rim slips over a lip at the top of the bucket and the bottom spring loaded clip goes through the two lips at the bottom of the bucket.
Suggest that you lay the parts out and see how they go together before trying to put them together. I believe it will save your glass lens from the down fall of gravity and the cement floor.

Re: 1936 Ford Pickup Headlight Assembly

I think my book description is missing a description of the B-13031 clips. There are three of these clips connect to the back side if the reflector (48-13028) and are equally spaced around the inside perimeter of the reflector.

The three clips attached to the reflector align with three slots in the lip of the headlight bucket. The clips "snap" into place by aligning the slots and back side of the clips and pushing the reflector to the bucket.

The cork gasket fits in a grove on the front edge of the reflector and it's only function is to provide a weather tight seal between the glass and the reflector.

Now... if somebody only made a GOOD headlight bulb socket:eek::eek:

The repos are super poor quality. Pure garbage in my opinion. I spent 3 hours trying to get one to fit after changing a burned out bulb. I gave up in disgust. I'll tackle it again later.
That socket 48-13076 fits '35-'36 Ford cars and '35-'39 trucks as I recall from the Green Bible. You'd think there would be enough demand for a good one to be made.

The other item to watch is the brass clips that hold the reflector 48-13028 in place. The reproductions need some work to get them to fit properly.
Save the originals if you can.

The diagram does not show these clips:

I have the wire clips for the lenses, they're okay I guess, but I do not have any originals. I would like to see how they fit on the reflector. Bulb sockets are another issue altogether. There used to be a quality product on the market about 10 years ago, but the new ones are not that great. Now I did find this socket that apparently GM cars used of the same era, and it's the same bulb and base:

I need to call them and see if this is the exact product that they have available. I want to give these a try to see if they are a viable product.

Even the repro wire clips for the lenses to the rings are awful .You will struggle to get them on correctly.Pure junk.

Try Fred at Southside Obsolete.

In the diagram shown on Post #4 one of the reflector clips is shown (Part No. B- 13031) at the bottom but in cross-section so it's not obvious. I didn't feel it was necessary to create a second drawing (I drew the cross-section diagram) just for those three clips. The other two clips not indicated in the drawing is because they aren't in the plane of the cross-section. Fortunately once you have the clips and reflector the locations and positions are relatively obvious.
