Wiring a new voltage regulator-54 Mercury

Can anyone advise the wiring connections for a new regulator on a 54 Mercury 256 engine. From generator to regulator. Battery connection???

Thanks!!

Battery wire goes to BAT terminal on regulator; while the ARM & FLD run to the respective terminals on the generator. If the generator wires were unhooked and not marked, use a test light to ID which one is which.

May need to polarize it when all done.

The battery wire is my problem. Do a wire go from the B terminal to the pos. ground side of the battery???

No, not unless you're changing the polarity of the electrical system. A '54 Mercury was originally 6v Positive ground. The wire from the 'battery' terminal on the voltage regulator would connect to the 'battery' terminal of the starter solenoid. And the cable from the positive terminal of the battery would ground to a bolt on the engine.
All three of the battery and starter cables should be 0 or 1 gauge wire.

If you're changing the car to 12v negative ground that's a whole nuther story.

The wiring on my car has been butchered up. It is 6volt + ground. I am just trying to run three new good wires to where they belong. My wiring diagram is not clear what goes where. I have added ground wires all over the car connected to the + side. Just have to get new wires from generator to regulator. Then make sure my generator is operating correctly.

I corrected this sentence in my previous reply.

The third and fourth images are a portion of a 6v Positive ground wiring diagram for a '55 T-bird. As pictured I believe the battery and starter are actually on opposite sides of the car. But other than that should be very similar to what you have regarding the basic wiring.
Hopefully they're not too small.
