Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe I could not stand it any longer, I have made an offer on a 29 Sport Coupe. A good friend of mine is going to take me along with is car hauling trailer for a 100 mile trip to look at and very possibly buy. It supposedly has new tires and engine with very little use. The guy inherited it from his father and has no desire to keep it. Are there any important things I should check out before writing him the check? I have been studding this forum and downloaded a Model A owners manual. z I had a A roadster pickup WAY BACK in 1960 and drove the heck out of it until someone offered me a months salary for it. Thank for any help

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe If you transport it on an open trailer,
load it backwards so the front is at the rear of the trailer. Try not to exceed 45 mph towing the trailer. If it is a fabric top, air turbulence can rip off the material. Jim |
Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Since it is a ‘29, it could have a two or a seven tooth steering box. Hope for a two tooth, and check for slop in the steering wheel.

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Make sure the hood is latched! If you put a tarp over the roof, secure it so the wind doesn’t whip the metal eyelids into the paint. Experience makes me say that.

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe 100 miles? DRIVE it!!!

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe I always use 4 tie straps when putting a vehicle on a trailer 2 in the front and 2 in the rear

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Check the following:
Body Wood 2 blade fan (steel=danger-Aluminum=safe) receipts/pictures or the engine was not rebuilt wiring Good luck! Mike |
Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe If it has the original top there is a good chance that much of the top wood has rot, especially at the joints and below the back window. It is all covered by fabric so may be hard to judge but look for water stains inside. To replace it all you would need some woodworking and upholstery ability.
p.s. You should get a copy of "How to Restore Your Model A Volume 5" from MAFCA. It has pretty much all you need to know about restoring Sport Coupes. |

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Ok, a friend took me to Salem, Oregon today to buy and pickup my 96year old 1929 Ford Model A Sport Coupe. so it's all tucked away under our carport. I was greatly surprised at it's condition. I didn't know it had been completely converted to 12 volts, with signal lights and electric windshield wipers..heavy duty car cover and a pickup load of extra parts, almost all new.,,Got it home just before the big storm we are supposed to to get tonight. I'm sure the first thing to do is paint those hideous pi$$-green wheels some other color ????

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Click on the box "Go Advanced", click on the paper clip icon, "Manage attachments"comes up, click on "choose file",

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Following up on Katy's instructions, I find I need to maximize the screen with the "Choose Files" page. When the screen is full, click on "Choose File". Do this for each photo individually up to six, I think. When all photos have been selected, click on the "Upload" button in the bottom right corner of that box and wait until the message informs you that the files have been uploaded. Then go to the bottom of the page and click on "Close This Window". You will be returned to the page where you were typing your message. Click "Preview" to see if the photos are included and in the order you want. If not, click on "Manage Files" and delete the ones you don't want and start all over. Once you are happy with the photos, click "Submit" and your message with photos will be put into the discussion thread. Piece o' cake!
Be advised that the photo files you choose cannot be too large. You may have to resize them in any number of free on-line re-sizing downloads. Also easy to use. Marshall |
Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Two things from your description:
1) 28/29 cars came with electric wipers that are very, very, very hard to replace so don't chuck it! 2) Get the paint guide as those may be the correct color wheels for your car. I mean it is your car and you can do with it as you wish. Mike |

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe Matching wheels to the accent pin striping color was a dealer option. They were black out the assembly plant doors.

Re: Going to pickup my 1929 A Sport Coupe 1 Attachment(s)
