Long Drive In The Merc

1 Attachment(s)
Long drive by my standards anyway. 13 miles of gravel road to the local car show yesterday at close to 50 mph. No dust due to recent rain. The old Merc ran smooth and steady except for the ever present stumble when I first hit the gas pedal. Had several comments on how smooth it sounded when I pulled into the destination. Whatever the mid range stumble problem was it has cleared itself somehow. The new axle bearing is somewhere in transit by Canada Post so I got by just fine with the axle and bearing from the 53 parts car.
I don't often get a chance to test the windshield wipers but they failed the test this time. They try but can't move more than a few inches before stopping so it was poor visibility driving home in the rain. Got a few minutes of driving video and at the show. Numbers way down due to the weather.

Thanks Lawrie. I absolutely love the old Merc. I know some of my channel viewers are likely sick of it but I don't care. I might give that Rainex a try.

Ralph: in my state the wiper system is checked for function, if they don’t move the car fails inspection and you get 10 days to get it fixed. I go thru this annually. I discovered a cracked vacuum line under the dash replaced that and gave the wiper motor a shot of Marvel Mystery oil with a plastic syringe. They work great now. I also try to avoid driving in the rain but sometimes I get caught in a downpour.
