Holland, Michigan flathead. C- List

Just saw this for $50.00, but what's with the large generator and extra mystery attachment?? https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/p...850681233.html

Interesting. Maybe hydraulic pump for a plow or power steering on a truck. Funny place for the oil filter too. If it was close to home, it would already be in my garage and I could tell you more about it!

Looks like a 40-41 with the crank mount fan

May be a cab over or bus engine

Perhaps a governor?

Re: Holland, Michigan flathead. C- List

Yep Henry has it. Govenor has friction pulley that drives off outside of fan belt. Generator is 3 brush with cutout broken off leaving just base.

Were governors just so guys would take it easy on the truck?

Re: Holland, Michigan flathead. C- List

yup, I see the springs for the governor now. Probably off a stationary power unit. Wonder whats on the back

Re: Holland, Michigan flathead. C- List

Am I correct in assuming that a stationary engine would at the very least require the ring ridge removed before installing in a car?

Re: Holland, Michigan flathead. C- List

What’s a ring ridge and how does it affect what it is installed in?

A ring ridge is the topmost area of a cylinder bore that remains free from wear caused by the top piston ring, which becomes more pronounced as the engine wears. A seat-of-the-pants judgement of engine wear is often done by feel with one’s fingernail at the top of a cylinder. Perhaps you know of it by another name.

Bus engines had those big fat generators.

Worth $50 just for the pulley off that generator. Anything else is gravy on top.

That front gen pulley probably has the .590 diameter shaft, since its a older 3 brush...

Ah, yes. You are likely correct.
