rewiring

Hello Ford barn,
When rewiring my '46 coupe is it best to run the wires over the driver door, passenger door or under the carpet? there was no wiring when I got the car..
Thanks, Mike [email protected]

Re: rewiring

Only the courtesy lights by the B pillar had wiring in the passenger area.

Which part of the wiring is at question?

I think you'll find the original and most common way is to go under the carpet. Going over the doors will create unnecessary problems.

Most of the wiring in my 47 are under the car by the frame rails or go thru the firewall.

The wiring to the rear (all lights and fuel sender) is bundled and run along the DS frame rail from the engine bay. There should be an existing opening toward the DS cowl that allows the various connections. This is my setup - I haven't totally cleaned up the bundles but the location is stock.

Don't believe everything you think.

As Fortyniners pic shows, wires from the dash go out through the fire wall, then splits to the engine compartment and down to the left frame rail with some going to the front lights and the rest to the rear lights, brake switch and fuel sender. On my Super Deluxe, one wire for the interior lights goes from the glove box area up the A pillar to the B pillar light/switch, with a wire going across from there to the light on the driver’s B pillar.

Before I forget, the most helpful resource during my rewiring exercise was an oversized, laminated, color coded diagram from these folks:

I agree , all wires go through the firewall back along the ( inside ) the frame rail . Attached with 33 clips which are available. The only wire inside the cab , beside the dash , goes to the passenger pillar light . That goes along the dash to the right side above the glove box then up above the door and to the pillar light . If you have a electric clock it is on the same path .
