Trailer behind your A ? Hello everyone.
I dont like a normal trunk. I hate the back-seats of my Tudor stuffed with parts and tools, as putting in the toolbox every second day will ruin the seats. I saw pics of small trailors behind A`s. As i got spare wheels id like to use a small trailor. - Who has got a hook and is willing to post pics here? - Using a self-built-hook? - Are there adaper-plates to install A-wheels to a modern axle? I appreciate your help Thank you Best regards from Germany Christoph Seems im getting courageous after installing new brakes :D |

Re: Trailer behind your A ? Thank you Mike

Re: Trailer behind your A ? 3 Attachment(s)
The only problem that I have found with towing my 1100 pound 1935 Bowlus trailer is that my insurance company - Hagerty - won't insure the Model A with a trailer behing the car. In order to pull a trailer, I have had to switch to my "modern" car insurer, State Farm and insure the Coupe as a regular car. Gar Williams

Re: Trailer behind your A ? We have towed a replica Mullins for years. The hitch we used on the sedan I built and had welded at a welding shop. It is a great way to go having the trailer. Your wife can bring as much luggage as she wants!

Re: Trailer behind your A ? 3 Attachment(s)
Sorry, that i go a little off-topic, but this is how i met the idea
to tow a trailer: We did some cruising yesterday (to enjoy the new brakes). We went to "Central-garage.de" in Bad Homburg which is a museum with changing oldtimer-exhibitions and actually they have a "Kleinwagen-Ausstellung". Tons of "new" german cars like Messerschmitt, Lloyd, Hansa, Isetta, Fuldamobil ... (oldest car to be there was our Tudor outside in the parking-lot) There was a 1955 Camping-car (or should i say house-trailer) behind a 250cc 14hp Goggomobil (100kg weight for this 2-bed-thing). Seing this, you bet that a "A" should be able to tow this perfect Bowlus. best regards Christoph |
Re: Trailer behind your A ? I have a Coleman Pack Horse. It's a 1 wheel job. Perfect size and you don't have to worry about backing up. You can do a google search and find pics.

Ja - nice one , but not available over here and
doesnt fit to european style hook-system. Anyone ideas about adaper-plates to install A-wheels to a modern axle? Thank you Christoph Just one more off topic: Messerschmitt Tiger 30hp going over 80 mph https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJh4BMMAGzo |

Re: Trailer behind your A ? Christoph: Go on the EV8 board and do a search for wheel adapters. You could do a thin alum ring that bolts to a modern rearend and then stud it with wheel lug pattern of the A's. Just an idea for you to explore. Some fancy wheel manuf have these adapter plates available, I believe.

Re: Trailer behind your A ? Check with your insurer. Mine was very definite - DON'T tow a trailer with a Model A.

Re: Trailer behind your A ? Allstate doesn't have a trailer restriction.
Gar: Is your hitch a standard hitch or custom made? |

Re: Trailer behind your A ? A trailer behind an 'A' is far better than an 'A' on a trailer.......

Re: Trailer behind your A ? Christoph,
I made my own hitch, which I think you call "hook". I purchased a class 1 used hitch at a swap meet for $15 and made brackets out of 1/4 inch steel plate. I then had a welding shop cut the old hitch to length and weld the plates on each end. You could use the same idea with what ever "hook" is used in Germany. I also have a Mullins trailer. It is a reproduction made of fiberglass. The originals were steel and are hard to find and even harder to restore. Contact me direct at [email protected] and I can send you some pictures. Richard |
