Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built According to the Lorin Sorensen book, Famous Ford Woodies....
37 were assembled in Dec of 1937 and during the production run of 1938.....6944 Bodies were manufactured by Murray |
Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built In a big Hardcover book I have "90 years of Ford" it says 7,044
1938 Ford station wagons were produced that year. . |
Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built According to Francis & DeAngelis “The V8 Ford as Henry Built It”. 6681 V8-85hp and 4-60hp for a total of 6685, This is a Domestic figure only and would not include any “other” country production figures.

Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built Three different answers from three different excellent books can be explained by calendar year production, model year production, and domestic or worldwide production... Maybe.

Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built A "difference" of (depending which figure and post) or 313 to 413 produced outside of the USA.....sounds pretty plausible. I would venture a guess at "most" of those being Made in Canada for that market as well as shipped to England, Australia etc etc. "Generally" speaking, U S production is what is most relevant here on Fordbarn, NO????

NOW
To confuse the issue, In Germany, at least, you did have woody production and their "job#1" calendar was quite different (and by in large, later) than here in the USA.....Partly due to the restrictions on import of materials from the U S as well as struggles with getting local resources due to Governmental controls and their relationship with Ford AG. I apologize for NOT having more evidential photos other than the first two (I thought I had more of this particular car) BUT as you can see the layout and dash are quite different than the 37, 38 woody's we know. Also, attached is a 1937 German brochure of the "style" of Ford I speak of......which I have seen listed as "early" as 1936 and ran to as late as 1938. The fourth picture showing the chrome accent strips added for 1938. ALSO, by 1938 in Germany, It would not be out of character to NOT have the numbers EVEN in worldwide production numbers as by this time frame, Ford of U S had very very little to NO control of the plant by this time and so having NO production records would be very very likely. I would bet that the production numbers would have been in the low 2 digit amount BUT would have added to the overall amount none the less!!!! |

Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built Ken
Let's see, the "OP" is from Michigan....the responder's are 2 from Minnesota, Florida, Nor Cal, and Illinois....I would think the "many foreign contributors here on the barn" understand my statement of 99.9383% Vs. .0617% production ratio, at worst, comparison/significance. I even went as far as to "recognize" a "sub set of the "many overseas contributors" faction AS to the "very very narrow" sub set of German production post OF which I doubt there is "ANY" interest or disagreement from at all!!! NO offense was intended by any means |
Re: how many 1938 ford station wagon's were built One thing we can surely all agree on, beyond the numbers published by those who actually did the research, everything we say here is pure speculation.
