Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? I never really put grease on the trans shaft that slides into the clutch assembly. However I was watching a show on motor trend and he greased the very end, the part that goes into the pilot bearing. Should I grease this as well as the splines that slide into the clutch plate?

Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? I do with a light chassis grease sparingly.

Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? Absolutely grease the splines on the trans input shaft. Not big gobs that will fly into the clutch, but a light smear on all surfaces to keep it from rusting up, or seize while in storage.

Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? There is special grease for clutch splines .
It is available on amazon and some european auto parts sellers,Sachs brand and others |
Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? I've always just used what ever was close by in my shop. Never had an issue. I have heard not to use anti seize from some pro mechanics Though, it gets dry and sticky.

Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? Grease is good if a spline has to slide like on a drive shaft. Clutch disks and flywheels don't work if grease gets slung around in there. I would be sparing with anti seize too. Anti seize will keep fretting from going on between parts.

Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? The clutch doesn't move on the splines of the transmission input shaft, but a small amount of grease will not hurt. I use synthetic grease on parts that can not be lubed after install.

Re: Grease trans input shaft (the shaft in the clutch)? I put a very small amount of lube on it. Almost back on the road!
