1939 Deluxe Radiator

Looking for someone that has a '39 Deluxe that can send me pictures of the radiator and mounting. As I do not have a radiator, I am finding it difficult to buy one as I do not have an accurate image.
Thank you in advance...
Wick

Will get you some good pictures.

To "clerify" restoman's statement here "39 Deluxe & 40 "Standard" (NOT Deluxe) are the same!!!

OR for a broader statement, starting with 1937, the Deluxe radiator from that year will fit the "Standard" model for the FOLLOWING year through to 1940. ie
1937 Deluxe & 1938 Standard
1938 Deluxe & 1939 Standard
1939 Deluxe & 1940 Standard

1939 Deluxe, 1940 V8 Ford (aka "standard") as well as 1940 Deluxe models used the identical radiator when the 85 or 100 HP engine was installed. The 60HP required a unique radiator respective of that engine.
I have attached a few photos of a well-used but correct radiator for the 85 / 100 hp models I have described above.

So, Mike, I would imagine then that the pick-up and sedan delivery for 40-41 use the same radiator too?? Larger V-8 of course.

Re: 1939 Deluxe Radiator

Ford had to drop the radiator down lower due to the new 1939 Deluxe design and the fan was moved to the crankshaft. The radiator has to have split cores so that they could put a crank hole through it. It continued into 1940 but was unique to those models as Kube listed. It took a while for Ford to end the use of a manual crank on the engine. They went to a lot of trouble to make that split core design.

Sedan delivery and pickup, 1940.
1941 utilizes a similar radiator and at first glance, one may think it's the same. It isn't.

Does this photo help with the mounting? Bolt comes up from the bottom. There is a cloth impregnated rubber pad between the frame and the radiator bracket. Then a spring is placed over the bolt followed by a slotted hex nut with a cotter pin.

Re: 1939 Deluxe Radiator

Thank you everyone for trying to help. I think I need to find out the height that I need and the correct mounting brackets on the side of the radiator. My fan is not on the crank and therefore I do not know which one I need. The pics that Kube posted looks like what I had in the few pics I have from before I started tearing it down.

wick: Please post a few photos of what you are dealing with including the type of fan mount you are using. Is your engine an 8BA?

wickcopland 12-13-2024 08:47 AM

Re: 1939 Deluxe Radiator

Yes it is an 8BA. I was told it was a '48. Here is a link to a pic. will try to get more later

Re: 1939 Deluxe Radiator

The photo link doesn't work. In the case it is an 8BA (only trucks got 8BA's in '48), this thread may be helpful. Although the situation with a '36 and a '40 differ in detail, the same basic problem is present; no room for a mechanical fan. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278828.

Perhaps someone who has already solved this problem will jump in here.

Re: 1939 Deluxe Radiator

Your first post said you did not have a radiator. So, to be clear, are these photos your setup? You do have a radiator?

The radiator in your posted photos is an after-market aluminum radiator. It is setting where it should be attached to the frame. Be 100% certain you place a thin (about 1/8" thick) rubber pad between the radiator brace and frame on each side. Also, there must be a spring above the radiator brace on each side.

The frame does twist as it was designed to do. Bolt the radiator down directly to the frame with no springs and something will crack. You can guess what that something will be.

I'm not certain what guys do for radiator hoses with this modification (later engine) but know this has been done countless times.
I'd suggest posting on the HAMB forum. Lots better / applicable advice for this type of thing on that site.

Re: 1939 Deluxe Radiator

That radiator was given to me by a friend and I stuck it in there to get info to compare with what I need. I have the bolts, springs and pads.
Thanks.
