trans shift stick Question [35/36]

According to the Vanpelt site a 7210 shifter is good for 35? to 51. the straight tops on the transmissions. Correct ?? customer wants to install a'39 [double detent] in his '35 and use his original shift stick. thanks Newc

35 stick is different; it works with the sloping tower.

I've done this and as I recall, you can use the 35 stick with modification. Seems to me I swapped the "lower ends", IE the part within the shift tower. You must line up the piece to be swapped into place quite carefully before welding to the 35 stick.

Re: trans shift stick Question [35/36]

Simply put, the 32-35 levers are designed to work with the 32-35 slanted shift towers. The 36-39 (plus the commercial & pickup truck levers up through 1952) are designed for the 36-39 (and the aforementioned commercial) upright shift towers. The two styles differ in length by roughly an inch at the bottom end.

Kube is right….you can cut the lever off the bottom end and reweld it another lower stub. Good welding technique is important…..you wouldn’t want the lever coming off in your hand during that shift from second to third…going up the hill….with an obnoxious trucker on your bumper.
