32-34 truck rear fenders ID I have just bought some truck rear fenders. I don't know if they are 32's or 33-34"s I would appreciate some identification features to look for.
Thanks! |
Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID I was just looking at United Pacific's web page yesterday, they offer repro's, perhaps that could be a good reference photo source???

Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID I believe it has to do with the slotted mounting holes and the depth of the frame attach section. verticle slots vs horizontal slots and a shorter frame extension on 33/34s ?? Newc

Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID Post a picture! That will help with us identifying what you have.
The difference in the spacer between the fender and the frame at front (as Dale noted) is the only critical difference between 1932 and 1933-34. IIRC 1932 spacer is about 1-1/8", 1933-34 about 7/8". Some (1933-34?) may have had additional holes in the back for a fender bracket but this is rare. 1932, 1933-34, and 1935-37 pickup fenders overlap the bead pattern of the box at the lower rear. This seems to me due to Ford using the bead dies from late 1931, and not reworking that area to fit the newly styled 1932 fender. (I had the "pleasure" of explaining this to a poor sot at the Portland Swap Meet one year, he had purchased an old pair of fiberglass fenders, a high$ pair of used steel fenders, and a new pair of fiberglass fenders, and they all "did not fit" exactly same.) There are also a lot of variations of Naughtehphord (pronounced Not-a-Ford) fenders that look similar to the 1932, 1933-34 pickup rears but are not. |
Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID ^^^ I sure wish the Fordbarn had a “like” button.

Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID Newc is correct. I have personal experience with the United Pacific deuce pickup rear fender. They were a bolt on requiring no alterations. I have a stock frame, boards and box. High quality parts.

Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID The UP pickup rear fenders have the hole for a rear fender brace/bracket. My 32 pickup with the original frame, box and fenders had the braces/brackets?
|
Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID Early '32 pickups did not have the braces for the rear fenders. They were added along with the holes in the fenders as a running change. The timing of the change was roughly coincident with the addition of the inner bed support brackets at the extreme ends of the chassis frame.

Re: 32-34 truck rear fenders ID That's interesting as my truck had the early all open louver hood. 90+ years old, who knows?
