8ba manifold on 59a motor

By blocking the road draft tube and fill tube/ breather holes of a 8ba manifold work on a 59a motor ? Would like to put a 4 bolt carb on my motor

thanks kurt

Sure, but you should validate the fuel-pump height and also whether or not you can install the breather "baffle" in the rear that a 59AB should always have. I'm not at home, so I can't remember whether or not the 8BA fuel-pump riser is the same height as the 59AB (seems I remember it being different). You should check the height and validate whether a breather baffle is available - along with the correct length fuel-pump push rod.

Also, I can't remember if the front of the 8BA manifold will allow the 59AB road-draft system (coming up from the pan - to the front tube in the block) to operate correctly? The tube needs to have access to the valley area - which is where it pulls the combustion gasses from. Truth be told the original 39 - 48 road-draft system is pretty "weak" in its design, so you might consider a PCV setup (documented various places here) - such that you have a good functioning crankcase breather setup.

It's something every flathead owner should Know, ALL 8ba abd 59 a parts are interchangeable. This means all parts. Unfortunatly the Bell housing isn't one of them.
If your 8ba block is junk and you have a good 59A. All the block parts will bolt right on the heads and water pumps nees to have a few holes kluged, but a 1\4 Pipe plug will do the jon valves and camshaft lifters ETC work just fine and the crank and rods don't nee any floating bearings. When running a stock car you learn such things. Good way to install a late distributor, just install a late cam. No Ya don't have to change the cam gear
The BIG Problem is the trans, However if you use a 49 to early 51 Merc trams it eill bolt right up to the 59 block All this saves mone and gets an engine running agin 8rt & *ba bolt to both blocka and are interchangeable. just plug the holes Another interesting you can do Is install a passenger side water pump pully on the drivers side pump. Now all the pulleys line up and you can use one belt with a 12v altinator which fits on a 3duce intake
