Marvel mystery oil.... I just purchased a Quart container size of Marvel Mystery Oil.
I use it in my '36 Ford pickup mixed withy my gasoline. I use 4 oz. of Marvel Mystery Oil per 10 gallons of gasoline (per their recommendation). Now I noticed on this container that it says you can use up to 20% of Marvel Mystery Oil in your engine. That would mean 1 Quart of Marvel Mystery Oil and 4 Quarts of oil. Is anyone doing this to their flathead V8's. Just curious.... THANKS, Bruce in California |
Re: Marvel mystery oil.... For what its worth...........I poured some Marvel Mystery Oil down the spark plug holes before I fired up my flathead engine the first time. I have not added it to my gas or crankcase.

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... I used to put it in my gas before non-ethanol became available. I’ve used it in the cylinders of motors that were going to sit for awhile. I haven’t used it in the crankcase. Some people claim it’s snake oil because the lack of scientific proof it does anything………if you feel better using it, that’s all the all the proof you need………Mark

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... Here's a little info. on benefits of MMM.

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... I love the stuff.
I think it contains Naphtha which actually dissolves cacked on oil. Oil time watchmakers used Naphtha to clean pocket watches. |
Re: Marvel mystery oil.... I'm with Frank I became a firm believer in MMO and use it in all the old cars.
I was having sticking valve issues on the Flathead that stuff cured it RIGHT now and never had another stuck valve. I just glug it into the gas you can't really over do it. You can run it in your crankcase I never have but it will clean things up in there pretty nicely from friends that have done this. |
Re: Marvel mystery oil.... Another often overlooked benefit is that it helps inhibit gas tank corrosion. I added to my gas regularly.

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... I'n a big fan of using it in my fuel for flatheads. I have run it in two different crankcases in the past few years. Both were trucks sitting outside a long time with some stuck rings and valves, but after a few months and some hard driving they both have good and even compression. On persistent valve sticking on flatheads, dribbling mmo down the carb of a running engine has never failed to remedy this for me. I'm a believer.

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... I run a 12oz can into a full tank of gas and like amount in the crankcase during summer and almost a quart into the crank case in winter (below 25 degrees). MMO will free up sticking valves and cleans the crankcase. Good stuff - works well.

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... There are two "Snake Oil" products I believe in; Seafoam and Marvel Mystery Oil. I have been using both so long, I'd probably continue doing so, even if they were proven to be totally useless (which I doubt).
It smells good, too.:) |
Re: Marvel mystery oil.... Balanced & complex, this marvelous mysterious red is harmonious. Even elegant. With a clear deep rich garnet color, a pleasant delicate bouquet and a curious lingering finish on the palate when siphoned. It pairs quite well with just about any gasoline and oil.

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... i’ve used mmo for years i couldn’t believe how much smoother my 50 flat head ran just after 3 tanks had to re adjust the carb idle and mixture another great product is Rislone that’s been around since the thirty’s it’s like adding detergent to your washing machine

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... In an NTSB post aircraft accident investigation published in 2003, it was reported that Marvel Mystery Oil was composed of 74 percent mineral oil, 25 percent stoddard solvent, and 1 percent lard.
In case you guys think this is a negative post. I use it in my flathead. |

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... 36ford pickup... I forgot to add that the flathead we use MMO in,,,, is our '36 Ford Pickup!! It has a 59AB flattie.
Owner tested 'dog' approved like the Subaru commercials.... and we have a Golden Retriever who loves truck rides:):) |
Re: Marvel mystery oil.... Gotz some MMO - haven’t used it yet; however, the Flat Four will no doubt benefit from an injection!!!!

Re: Marvel mystery oil.... I run a crab dist. and as the ignition points today do not have the bushing in the pivot hole I soak the fiber movable points in MMO over night then clean the contacts with alcohol also soak the wooly worm that goes in the shaft to lube the front bushing cant say if this helps but have not had any dist. issues
