You must give those folks credit for what they can make using only a machete, chisels, hammer, leather and other primitive hand tools. As a former vocational teacher, I really appreciate their skill and creativity.

As a side note, I did something similar when I recapped my worn out lawn mower wheels. First two photos are of 2016 recap install using bicycle tires and screws. Last two photos show same wheels as of Aug. 2024 still working fine after 8 years of weekly use. No machete required.

I'm miserable because I can't get my distributer to work, these poor guys have a whole different level of problems.

That is great.I remember the story of the guy that replaced worn engine bearings with thick bacon slices. Fantastic.

Thanks Jim!

The front wheels on my Toro don't last on my hill of a "lawn".

I bought the same 20" tire as Jim did, ground the bead wire and cut around the circumference as shown.

Old Snapper mowers never die. It is sad that they no longer build Snapper push or riding mowers.

Glenn, Excellent recap job on your TORO. My SNAPPER recap has lasted 9 years so far.
Yours will too. We are so fortunate to live in the USA.
