2 Ton truck brakes
 

My daughter and her boyfriend recently purchased a pair (39 & 41) stake trucks and we are trying to get them back to driver condition.
Can someone tell me if the master cylinder on a 1939/1941 2 ton stake truck is the same as a pick up or car? I would think it should have a larger bore. If it is different, where is a good source to order from. Thanks guys.

Not the same m/c. When I had my '40 1 1/2 ton I got a Wagner m/c from Joe's Antique Auto. At the time it crossed to a Dorman # which I got from my local parts house for another '40 cab and chassis I had. Another source might be Chuck's Trucks. Nice looking trucks.

Just have to give you a double WOW on the two trucks. Both are in really nice condition. Great to see the younger generation excited about such things. I agree about Chuck's Trucks and If he's still in business Bob Selzam's 'Half Ton Fun' has all the big truck stuff. He's all Ford and All Trucks. He's in Tom's River NJ. Someone here might have his contact info.

Bob Selzam is a great resource for the big trucks. He has helped me over the years with my big truck projects. I actually had the opportunity to visit him in Toms River several years ago. I think the best way to contact him these days is through eBay. His store is "njparts". I would send him an email on an item he is currently listing, and ask for the part you are in need of.

converted my brakes on my 41 1 1/2 ton to dual master cylinder using F-250 master cylinder 68 to 72 and a home made 3 to 2 hole attachment bracket it was easy to do and worked great. I also have done the same on my 41 3/4 ton truck using a F-100 mc from a 68 to 72 truck

A dual master is an excellent upgrade on any old vehicle, and maybe more so on a 2 ton truck. I can't believe how well preserved those trucks are. Apparently they didn't spend much time on salted roads. I would love to see a few more photos.

51504bat is correct with the master cylinder part number. If your original master cylinders are still good, the 91T-2004 rebuilt kit (also available at Joe’s) is a good option. I used this for my 47 COE and it was straight forward.

Also, if you need a visual of how the brakes are put together, the “big green parts book” (officially titled “Ford Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalogue” for 1928-1948 cars, 1928-1947 trucks) has good info on all the part numbers. Page 24 has the whole truck brake system diagram and page 36 has the exploded view of the master cylinder which should help with a rebuild (based on a Nov 1950 version of catalogue).

Thank you guys, we will get the original now (only one of them) and most likely convert to the dual reservoir before driving on the road. Gary (GB SISSON) mentioned couple more pics. I don’t have too many but here’s a couple. I think the 39 has a newer bed since the FORD is block letters and not script. 41 has a homemade bed that is very stout!

makes want to get my 41 1 1/2 ton back! both are great looking trucks, I have a one owner 47 1 1/2 ton that was left out for goats to climb on, which made a big mess but cab and bed are fixable

Lately every vehicle that someone comes across is a 'barn find'. Just sprinkle some dirt on it for the photoshoot and the advertisement. But you hit the motherlode. Good for you! Great pics by the way, thanks!

Rockauto list the 1-1/4" master for the 1-1/2ton trucks. They also li9st wheel cylinders. Are the 2 tons the same?

You got two great trucks - congratulations! My advice is to take it slow and learn as much as you can before making changes or modifications. If you want to keep it original, just know that there are some folks out there that can help you. My area of expertise is th e 1935 and 1936 trucks, so a few years earlier than yours so I won't be too much help, but feel free to PM me with any questions and I'll do my best to help you out.
