Re: 8BA Flathead Fuel Pump Rod Groove For the past few decades, I haven't used the engine powered fuel pump. It just isn't very reliable, so I've gone to an in tank electric, like the rest of the cars. Junk yards are full of them!!

Re: 8BA Flathead Fuel Pump Rod Groove I've had the engine pump on my 39 for 20+ years with no problem.

Re: 8BA Flathead Fuel Pump Rod Groove I put a "Charlie NY" rebuilt on the '51 Merc engine I installed in my coupe in 2016. Hasn't missed a beat since.
I removed the electric pump at the same time. |
Re: 8BA Flathead Fuel Pump Rod Groove I think the end of the push rod is hardened to resist wear from pump action. Could that groove be part of the manufacturing process for use with more than one type of pump?

Re: 8BA Flathead Fuel Pump Rod Groove I'm glad to hear that. I assume it's a daily driver?? My truck was a work truck drove it every day. but the fuel pump was my only problem..
