Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam I used to run a cam that Tom Hutchinson called the "Awful Awful". It was a .450 lift flat tappet grind that Erson once made. Somehow I "lost" the damn thing over the years - have looked for it many times and it refuses to rear its awful head.
I'd be interested in looking at a big radius grind and seeing how it would run with a blower - that could be fun! If you happen to know of somebody who would part with one (and hopefully has the Crane radius lifters to go with it as they are a different radius than Isky's if I am correct), I'd be interested in trying "Awful #2"! LOL PS: I used to know Harvey Crane and sent him my original Potvin 425 for him to do some analysis on it. He used his super high-dollar cam software to rework the profile so the lifter didn't "run off the edge" and was going to grind me an "improved" version. Then Harvey passed and my original 425 went with him . . . I never got it back from those handling his estate. Damnation! |
Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam I'd have think that south of the Mason Dixon line there are a lot of old Crane cams sitting in garages, old shops, etc. I'd love the try one as well.

Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam THAT Info was from my old Winner's Hand Book 1971. Chase Knight on the HAMB worked for Crane Cam for years nice guy look him up.

Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam Interesting Story on Harvey Crane: Most of us remember the "cam wars" and it is easy to have the impression that guys like Harvey Crane and Ed Iskenderian must have had little respect for each other and never did business together. Harvey told me the opposite was true - that he had a lot of respect for Ed and they did quite a bit of business together.
Harvey said to me "Ed was just about the only guy that when we did business together, I never questioned if he had the money or would pay his bills. He always paid on time - I completely trusted his word." |
Re: Crane 400 Cam and a AL-1 cam B&S, is that the cam I sold you???? That came from a junkyard inder new management and all the OLD stuff was being scrapped. I got there just at the right time.
Gramps PS ran a crane cam in a 392 Hemi, Nice!! |
