spring has anyone ever stretched the PRV spring to increase the oil pressure?
|
Re: spring That’s an interesting question, one that I’d not care to experiment with unless the supply of springs known to possess acceptable values has dried up. Pressure relief valves are not there for shits and giggles, mess with those values at your own risk.

Re: spring Your PRV is completely closed, until it reaches the set pressure. Stretching the spring will do nothing to raise the pressure, below the set point.

Re: spring Hi Tom, I had an old friend who was a wrench back in the 40s . He added a shim to the spring in my 36 dodge because after the complete rebuild I still had low oil pressure. If I remember right it was simply a washer , nothing more. He said the spring has to be able to compress distance of the diameter of the oil passage feeding it at the very least but should never need to be that tight. That washer he put in my Dodge took me from 20 psi to over 40 psi. Old school lessons from the one that lived them . Tim
