Door Handle pulls out

1 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a very nicely ground up restored '41 Super Deluxe Coupe. The P.O. had apparently spared nothing...... However, when my wife wife went to open the passenger side door, the handle came out in her hand. It appears to me that I will have to dis-assemble the inside of the door to make the repair. I don't have a clue where to begin. Help !

Not so . On the door edje , jamb , ther is a hole where a oval head screw goes to secure the handle . Actually it’s easy . It’s raining now but if you want a picture, I can email you one tomorrow . I love the 41s , Ive got 2 Tudors now and have had 4 in the past ,
Good luck with your new ride .

Oh boy , wait . I now see it did break . But you’ll need a new handle . Its easy as described to remove and replace .

I only know how to email photos. I’ve got a screen shot of a correct handle assembly. It will show the way it should look . The remaining piece is still attached to your door and will come off easily with removal of the screw I was talking about .

Assuming the doors on '41 and '46 Coupes are similar, the attached pictures will show where the handle retaining screw is located. You may have to push the door seal aside to find the access hole. Regarding the handle breaking, is it possible the handle was pulled to open the door before the handle was turned to release the latch? Door handles on new vehicles are pull to open, and that is what people expect is needed. I am always careful when offering someone a ride in my '46, that I open the passenger's door for them, and explain the they need to turn the handle, not just pull.

Re: Door Handle pulls out

In addition to all the good advice, you may hear a rattle in your door as some of the broken pieces have probably fallen to the bottom of the door.

Re: Door Handle pulls out

Thanks to all who have replied to my dilemma . I found an n.o.s. handle for a reasonable price on ebay.
