He found a use for all those extra left over parts?

It's nice. He is a craftsman for sure.

And there is now a good chance his spare parts will outlive him.

Functionality seems to be the entry pass into the future for Model A parts.

I think a lot of work went into a car that looks very odd to me.

The front and rear fenders look like they’re made without compound curves. Easier to form sheet stock in just one plane. I watched Mark Gerisch bend, stretch, and shrink a sheet of aluminum to form a section of a fender with headlight nacelle for a custom bodied sports racer with a changing-radius crown, tapering profile and reverse curve. I will never criticize anyone who builds their own bodywork.

I would do high quality fiberglass fenders...

Westcott USED to be high quality - in place and bolted you almost couldn't tell they were not steel - until you feel underneath for the "bead."

Does that mean Westcott is not high quality anymore?

What a waste of a piece of History. Oh well, different strokes for different folks!

It's been 25 years since I bought a set of Westcott Fenders. I've seen others of unnamed manufacture at the Epping flea market that I would guess were about half the weight.

Its a different world.

But I'll give them a plug. On mine I was impressed with the small "ovals" they provide for drilling. http://www.wescottsauto.com/SubIndex...ders_indx.html

They were not the cheapest even at the time of my purchase. But they were bought with Arnold Goff's recommendation.

Re: What did he do?

Fiberglass is not steel. It can be made to function like steel but is has to be reinforced either by layered build up or by added reinforcements. All it requires is an accurate mold so it is much less expensive to form than steel. Most folks that do build a good fiberglass product can be competitive with any company that attempts to press them and roll the beads like Ford did. Cheap parts will wave at you when running down a rough road. It's a way for someone to do custom work without breaking the bank on good used parts or taking the many hours to hand fabricate a steel replacement. Folks that go with Wescott's at least get what they pay for and many hot rodders are glad to do it. Restorations, by the definition, would be restored with original parts or at least quality reproductions of original parts.

Gary's reply. I do enjoy quoting Albert, here below.

Albert Einstein said technology would one day “surpass our human interaction” and create “a generation of idiots”.

And so it has come to pass.

Not quite my taste but different strokes for different folks. I saw a wood bodied A in Hemmings a couple of weeks ago. Struck me the same way, more tacky than anything. Both cars have had lots of work to them and I respect that, it's just not what I care for.
