Which style of bolt was used first to hold the diff carrier together. The D head, or the rectangle head?

My early 30 has the square head, just took the differential apart a couple of weeks ago.

The early carriers used the D-head carrier bolts. Both carrier half's are the same part number. The ring gear can mount to either side. The later carriers each side is different. The ring gear can mount to only one side. The later carriers used the rectangular headed bolts.
