On our last legs

The engine is my 29 couple is on it's last legs and I'am not far behind it. I put the rebuilt in in 1970 and it's been a dandy engine, but it's about ready to give out. Cracked main bearings are just the beginning. I still drive it almost daily to the post office and store but would like to find a good used engine in Northern Cal.-Southern Oregon area and purchase it. Neither of the kids are interested in the car. I've owned and been driving it since 1967 and would like to continue. I'am 78. Appreciate your possible help, Thanks, Bill

Maybe someone who has bought a Burtz engine will have something to suit you. I have a couple but the postage would be a killer. Seriously.

If it has been a good engine, do it and yourself a favor and have it rebuilt.

A lot more money and time than a good running used engine that was replaced by a Burtz.

Considering the OP is 78 and his family is not interested in the car, why spend all that money now? Toss in a good used engine and his grocery hauler will work out just fine until he's finished either my time or the DMV.

My car is a daily driver as well and I don't see me changing that fact. My engine is fine, but I could use a spare. The modern cars have been sitting for 2-years now and at 62-years old, It's a little late in life to drop 6-7k on a car that WILL out live me. My family wouldn't know how to care for the car, so they don't want it either. Pft, if my kid's look at a wrench they run in the opposite direction so I'll let the next care-taker drop the $$$$.

Regards
Bill

I'm kind of in the same boat as Bill. My Son wants my wife's Corvette. When he was young riding along in my 28 was great fun, but now not so much. I keep telling him not many cars today will be running when they are ~96 years old.

As far as the comment above - finding a used engine for $250 - $750 I have not seen that.

Thanks for your help Brentwood Bob. I'am not looking for a deal but rather a good running stock engine and certainly will pay what it is worth.
