Spreading frame to install engine

My frame needs to be spread 1/4 inch to install the engine on my A. Is this tension part of how the side rubber mounts work? Is there such a thing as too much tension?

No and No, use a spreader of some sort or purchase from Model A Vendors.

x2 with Gary.

Either make your own set up to do the spread or buy a spreader.

I have a spreader. I’m curious if the amount of side force effects felt vibration on the engine.
And how much spread needed to install is normal. Are all frames about the same?
I am installing new rubber pads and bolts.

Try loosening the 3 bolts that connect the engine mounts to the frame enough to enable the steel spacers to slide outboard. Doing so lets the engine mounts compress the rubber pads, so it is easier to get the flywheel housing to slide into place.

Hello, had to spread my A also used two trees and come a longs , fenders were off so that helped with hookups on engine mount didn’t seem to take too much to get the bell housing in ,a little tension worked.

I've only had to use a little tension on the ones I've done but a cargo strap hooked to my 1/2 ton tow hitch helped on one lol

Re: Spreading frame to install engine

I got lucky with mine. I just used a pry bar and the engine fell right into place. I just started one bolt on the front of the engine, before prying on the mount in the rear.
