As a quick way to see if it's scam ask the seller if he is a V-8 Club member and check his name in the roster.

Uh.. Not all people who don't belong to the club are scammers.

He's passed my first test as he is willing to meet face to face to sell the items. NOW I trying to figure out how to know IF he will in fact show up and IF I cannot find someone very close, make sure my buddy in Dallas doesn't drive all that way for nothing!!!!

rockfla: I know the usual practice is for the buyer to trust the seller and send $$ and pay for the item in advance BUT, I wonder if the seller would be willing to FIRST send you the part and then you pay for it after you receive it?

The seller might be insulted but, it might be worth a try. It's all a matter of trust.

THAT is why I was hoping to find someone close so its "potentially" a wasted effort!!!

No, but it is one of the ways to check.

Exactly, I'm not in the V8 club, and I'm not a scammer.

If you and your seller are Paypal literate then simply request that he send you an invoice via Paypal. Then pay him via paypal. Paypal will hold the SELLER responsible and if they do no deliver then Paypal offers purchase protection and will refund your money. Scammers use the friends and family option on Paypal to get money. If they demand you use this option then run away. When a buyer/seller uses paypal invoice for goods and services then you are double protected as a buyer by both Paypal and your Credit card. Since you are using your Credit card(via paypal) to make the payment your CC company will also protect you from fraud. Cheaper than gas money from Dallas.

Great advice Patrick. Also note that you are not protected by Paypal if you pay the seller as a "friend". Debit cards don't usually provide protection whereas a credit card does.
