Transmission ID

I have a transmission that I need help identifying, can anyone help?
It is a ;
Transmission
T89B-148
Tail shaft
R11-1P
I know it is a BG 3 speed with overdrive, but it has 3 shift levers on the case cover, that is my problem.

It has a 12 volt solenoid

Re: Transmission ID

Most if not all 3 and overs have 3 levers, the one at the rear is the lockout for the overdrive. If your saying there are three levers on the main transmission side cover and not the OD housing, that would be odd. As always pictures help. Tim

Re: Transmission ID

I'd bet the transmission case on the side opposite the shift cover has T85 cast on it.
I'm confident you have a T85 three speed transmission with R11 overdrive. The little lever on the extension housing is an overdrive lockout lever, not a shift lever. The late T85 transmissions used T89 shift cover castings since they are interchangeable.
If the transmission uses a slip yoke it is a car transmission. If the transmission uses a fixed yoke on the output it is a 65-71 Ford pickup transmission.

Re: Transmission ID

There were T85 R11C transmissions made from 1949 through the early 60s. The last one was the best one. It was the T85 R11N with the nodular iron case and the better input spline. These were used behind FE V8s in cars and even pickups up to the early 70s. They are the strongest of the whole family of Borg Warner overdrive transmissions.

The T89 was used in Jeeps but I've never seen an R10 or 11 overdrive I stalled in one. The 259 series and T86 top loaders had R10 overdrives.
