1957 Monarch fuel sending unit ohms range.
 

Have a 57 Monarch Richelieu with the 312, pretty much stock. The fuel sender is out of wack. What should the ohms measure out to? If I fiddle with it, I get about 15 ohms full to 95 ohms empty. Does anybody know the correct range?

When I fixed my 54 Meteor, I bought a fuel sending unit from Princess Auto and using a resistor I managed to get that one to work perfectly. I plan on doing the same with the Monarch, but cannot find the specs anywhere.

I see a listing on Rockauto for a 57 Ford Fairlane sending unit, but not for a Mercury. It visually looks the same, do they read differently?

If you have an aftermarket unit, they are notorious for being hard to calibrate. The new ones are resistance based, while the original are based on a different principal. That makes the resistance units incompatible with the stock gauge. Most people end up trying to get it reasonably accurate at empty, including me. I've read that some have success adding a resistor in line with the sender. Good luck with it.

I used a 10-73 ohm aftermarket sender with my stock '41 gauge with a 12-6V reducer and it worked perfectly.

I'm glad it worked for you. Is the reducer on the gauge power or on the sending unit?

I used a Ron Francis 12-6V voltage reducer (VR-1) which will power up up to 3 gauges and it supplied power to the gauges.
