'40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Morning....
Had the '40 out yesterday and when I got back home and shut my driver's door I heard something go..."tink" ! Didn't think anything of it until I had to go out again and the door handle inside and out are loose. Door wouldn't shut again. Going to remove the door panel over the weekend and find out what I need to do. I'm assuming it's a spring of some kind. Anyone know whit I'm in for when doing this ? Thx.....MIke |
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Broken spring in the door latch.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Are they available ?
Thx Ken |
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Yes but not sure the quality of the repos.Try Southside Obsolete in MN.He might have NOS ones.Pull the latch first. He might have a NOS latch also.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Thx Deuce…….will do.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism I would opt for a good used latch or a NOS latch. Fixing(replacing) a broken spring can be done, but it is not an easy task.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism yes the spring replacement job requires welding and three hands. Also a spotter if the spring escapes and flies into the garage.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism If the inside door handle was loose also look for it's spring to be broken in addition to the latch mechanism spring.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism I have extra NOS 40 door latches. PM me. Of course the driver's door gives up first as it is usually used way more then the passenger side.

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Deuce…….
My email is [email protected] It’s the spring in the pivot arm drivers side of course as stated. Do you have a pivot arm assembly ? Slowforty ……I see what your saying now ! LOL . This could be a pain the butt ! Thx….Mike |

Here is a pic of what your latch should look like. The remote arm will just lift up and slip off the latch after removing it from the door so no need to remove your latch.Yes you need to remove the door panel uph. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...1&d=1590007907 |

Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism |
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism It’s for sure the spring in remote pivot arm. Got it out and cleaned it all up and found a small piece of spring stuck in the grease. Ugh…..!
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism Have you removed the latch? I would check that too if the outside handle feels loose.
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism TJ……..yes I did check it out and that spring is still strong. For the moment it is !
Re: '40 Ford Door Closure Mechanism In post #15 above, could someone tell me what this latch fits? I am thinking the pass door. Thank you!
