1953 f-100 with merc flathead Thinking about going with two carbs and A reworked GM distributor, engine has hedders on it but otherwise stock ,truck has A T-5 trans ,power steering ,and A 9" rear with 350.1 gears from A 59 f-100. what are the advantages of doing this , The truck runs very good as is with no problems , gas milage around town is approx 14 mpg . the merc flathead is A strong runner as is. looking for pros and cons .

Re: 1953 f-100 with merc flathead That might be better to use a 2Gc carb for more drivability as well as fuel mileage. But the dual carbs makes it a Hot Rod.

Re: 1953 f-100 with merc flathead My wife's barn truck is a '34 pickup with a '53 Merc flathead. Stock except for headers, Mallory distributor, and Holly 350 four barrel carb. Runs great and quite strong. The big inch 59a in my '41 coupe has three carbs with progressive linkage. Runs great (finally), but a real pain to get the jets and linkage perfected.
For bragging rights, I would recommend the four barrel for your truck, but the Rochester 2GC is a very street friendly solution. |
