One thrilled 90-year old - sad news

I am sure several of you will remember my story of finding the last owner of my Model A Town Sedan ("One thrilled 90-year old" thread). His name was Oliver William Johnson, he lived in Etna, California, and last drove it in 1970. I wrote that thread on January 15 after I had last talked to him on the phone. I sent him some pictures of the car when I first got it and what it looked like now. He was so excited about showing them to his buddies and telling them stories of the ol' Model A.

I just received a letter from his caregiver saying that Oliver has passed away on February 3. I never got to give him that ride that I promised, but at least I know that I was able to give him some pleasurable memories in his last two weeks. I am still planning on getting over there as soon as the weather improves this spring and meet all his buddies at the coffee shop. It should be fun. Maybe I should rename my car Oliver after my friend that I never got to meet in person.

Robert,
That's very kind of you. I'm sure his buddies will have a good time and think of Mr. Johnson as they do. Cool name also!

Re: One thrilled 90-year old - sad news

Several years ago, my wife and I drove our '29 roadster to her family reunion outside of Erie, PA. Her Uncle Paul was all over my roadster and said that until recently, he had a bunch of "A" parts scattered around his tool shed. Next thing we knew, Uncle Paul had vanished, driving back to his farm. He returned with a Steward Warner horn. We touched it to the roadster and it sounded great. He gave it to me and I promised to build a car around it. The town sedan in my avatar photo proudly wears that horn. Before he passed, we went to Erie on a Sunday and took Uncle Paul out to lunch in the sedan.. HE loved it. His horn is still the best I've ever heard!
