Early '35 Door Pull Hardware Color?

My early '35 5W coupe has the forward door handles and fabric pull cords. The car underwent and amateur restoration at some point in its life. The metal "keepers" that secure the pull cords were painted dark brown to match the dash and window garnish. Were they originally painted this color?

I've stripped them and they're brass.

Don Rogers, who wrote the 35-36 Ford book, and who posts here often, should be able to answer that question for you. Hopefully he will chime in here. I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say they were probably chrome or nickle plated.

Add-on Question: those conical springs behind the door panels; do BOTH the door handle and window crank get these springs? My car had only one spring behind the passenger side window crank.

The springs go with all of the interior door and window handles, except when there are no door trim panels as with '32-'34 Closed truck cabs.

Page 43 of the 1935-36 Ford Book indicates that "The pull cord mounting brackets were painted Taupe on Deluxe models and Butler Nickel finish on Standard models. Materials used for the actual cord was Brown Worsted Cloth on Standard models and Taupe Worsted cloth on Deluxe models."

I hope this helps.

Originally, The pull cord brackets were painted taupe for deluxe vehicles with a metallic taupe dash. Standard cars had butler nickel plated brackets to match the interior door handles. The dash on standard 35 vehicles was dark maroon, not brown as you have indicated.

Sorry for the mix up, but this maybe another correction to the book, since I quoted page 43.

This '35 of mine has a Canadian VIN. It has a painted grille shell -- but two wipers and a plated windshield frame. The dash, window garnish, door handle and window crank handle, and pull cord keepers are all painted a dark brown -- not maroon -- but like I said, it was "restored" at some point, so who knows?
