1931 Ford Coupe
 

Good morning to all, I’m installing a 4” dropped P&J’s front axle with ‘32 perches. I realize that I have to extend the mech brake mount to make it line up, but can I use the original spindles and steering arms or do I have to go with the later style spindles, draglink etc? Also if I decide to go with the later spindles can I use the ‘31 draglink and tie rod? Thanks for any and all replies

A 4" drop puts a lot of things in a different place. It would have been closer if the axle was a dropped & stretched model A but the control rod alignment would still be off. Most folks use the later round back spindles with Lincoln hydraulic brakes. The tie rod arms can be bent up to put a late type tie rod over the radius rod set up. A hairpin type steering arm will work for the drag link hook up.

The model A stuff is all set up for ball & socket rod hook ups and I don't know how much it can be adapted to miss the radius rod and hook up the drag link. Mechanical brake hook ups are a whole other unknown. The front rods might run affowl with the fenders or splash aprons. The front half shafts would be out of alignment with the perches even if they were model A parts. Too many challenges for my taste.

32 34 drums and backing plates will bolt on model A spindles with no mods. To use 35's, you need the bearing spacer on the spindle. Not sure about dropped axles and rod alignment

To those that replied, thank you. What I needed was the axle to be dropped and stretched to the original length, that way everything would be close.
