Gas shut off Valve

Hi all. I am about to take the gas shut off valve under the dash. What is the best way to do it without wreaking the threads? Les Andrews warns one about this. Thanks for the help!

Re: Gas shut off Valve

Screw a fitting or a nut onto the outlet threads to protect them.

never had a problem- use a crescent wrench. when I reinstall I use plumbers teflon tape or pipe dope with teflon.

The white teflon tape is not fuel proof. The yellow one is fuel resistant - an improvement but IMO, still not good enough. I use a little Permatex #3 on the thread and although I haven't used it, I think P/tex #2 would do too. Other may confirm or dispute. It's not personal.

Hello Paul! As stated use adjustable wrench should be able to turn it .. or 5/8" wrench on the square part, shouldn't be near the threads.

Any chance of the valve breaking off at the tank edge?
