Rear window stainless in a shoebox

HELP. I've spent two days trying to fit the double groove stainless trim into the new Carpenter rubber and still can't get it in. Is there a secret trick I'm missing or a certain procedure to follow? I have the rubber mounted onto the glass but can't get the stainless to fit. I'm assuming that you start with the inside groove first but don't know for sure. It's a '49 Coupe but I'm using the double groove rubber as I already had a really nice double groove stainless piece.

On this type of weatherstrip you may have to insert the trim before installing the glass.

Yes, the glass is already out and I'm trying to follow the "Ford" instructions but they just say to install the trim into the rubber before putting the glass back into the car.

When i done my 49 , the weather stripping went around the glass first and then the chrome molding. Use a lubricant to help get the molding in place. Also make sure you have a couple of helpers. I used some dish soap as a lubricant and we held the unit up as it would look in the car and used masking tape to hold the unit together and placed it on the car. We had two people on the outside and one person on the inside pulling the string to pull the rubber molding over the metal lip. It is a pain to get in.

Sorry, i just noticed you said rear window. But it will still help if you have some helpers to hold it in place to install it.

Still looking for advice on which groove to attempt to install first. It feels like the rubber is too long but I talked to the rep at Carpenters and he says not.
