39 pickup wiper arm

The trico wiper for my pickup is a KSB 383-1G. The wiper arm I got is a 78-17529 listed for a 37-39 closed car and pickup. The problem is the arm is splined while the wiper shaft has six sides like a Allen wrench. Did they package the wrong arm or what arm should I be looking for? Like the title says this is for a 39 pickup.

I can pick & paw through my old 39 parts, I believe I kept my wiper arm assembly and happy to donate if you need. PM me when you get a chance. Scott

I have been looking for a 63 panhead as that's the year I came about. Looks like there is a nice one in Leslie MI, a little to far for me though.

I've checked the parts catalog and it does state 37 -39 closed cars and pickups do use the same wiper arm. Still not sure why the one I got is splines. Tried to call Joe's antique auto where I got the arm but he doesnt answer the phone anymore so I'm still waiting for a call back.

The 6 sided shaft you described is probably the arm retainer nut. Try carefully to unscrew it from the shaft.

No, that nut is removed. Between the threads for that nut and the threads for the wiper motor mount is the six sided piece. I cant load photos to explain it any easier.

Most likely the wiper motor is not "correct" in the sense that shaft design was likely an updated/experimental design with Trico supplying a modified wiper arm.
Pictures would be nice.
More research into Trico products practices as to exactly what the wiper motor interchange is and if the shaft/arm was a later design.

Just got off the phone with Joe from antique auto. He tells me because I have a NOS wiper motor that I need to put the arm on the shaft and tighten up the front nut. This causes the arm to cut the splines in the shaft. Says this how it was done. Says the arm doesnt need much to grab as the vacuum motor puts out little power. Amazing.
