1935-36 pickup cowl lacing

The cowl lacing that I bought measures 3/16 thick (same as used around the grill shell). The relief around the cowl varies from + 1/4” on the top to + 3/16 on the side. The deeper area causes the hood to set below the cowl in this area.

Visually it doesn’t look right. Ford must have had a reason or the original lacing was different than the repo product today.

Any thoughts on this discrepancy?

Whether it matters in your situation, Ford used a hard-core lacing and all that has been available in recent years is very soft and compresses quickly out of shape.

Thank you Don.
Sounds like Ford did not adjust for the difference in lip depth.
The Vintique brand webbing i have is close @ .175-.180 thick x .6 wide
