Valve seats How to remove and install valve seats?
|
Re: Valve seats To remove- get washers that fit into the inside of the seat.
I used a stick welder to weld the washer to the inside of the seat. Does not need to be perfect. This will shrink them, they will be easy to remove. I had a company called K.O.Lee make 16 new seats to my measurements. I took some plumbing parts to make a guide- fits the inside and flat top of the seat, extends into the lifter below- so the seat is driven in perfectly flat- with a hammer. I lube with never seize. This worked for me- I have had the experience using proper machinery. (on other engines). For many, this will be best to take to someone with the tooling and experience. Karl |

Re: Valve seats I have removed the seats by just welding on the seat this easily shrinks them and they fall out and sometimes just break into pieces.

Re: Valve seats Not trying to be a smartass but are you sure you have removable seats? I’ve read some horror stories about when somebody tried welding them and they weren’t removable ….Mark

Its easy to see the insert inner edge. If someone tried to do what you wrote they really need glasses. |
Re: Valve seats We just put a small bead with the TIG you do not need to weld all around the seat. Three spots normally will shrink them. I no longer can see good enough and keep my hands still so this job has been passed on to the next generation. Trying to train the third generation but my 12 year old grandson shows no interest in greasy old machines.

Ring will simply fall out. One word of caution---I once knew a guy to whom I explained my technique. Only too late he realized his block did not have seat rings. Ugly. Never changed them myself but I remembered reading this …..Mark |
