Does anyone have instructions they would be willing to share for the early wood box version of the timing jig?

The instructions for using the KRW V-126 fixture are shown in the Nov-Dec, 1933 service bulletin, page 134, and updated in the August, 1934 bulletin, pages 204 and 205. These documents are reprinted in the 1932-37 Service Bulletins.

By 1938, the recommended piece of equipment to set the timing of the distributor is the stroboscope. However, the timing procedure for using the V-126 fixture is also documented on pages 341 and 342 of the 1938-1940 Service Bulletins, subject number 12127 pages 59 and 60.

If you don't have access to the service bulletins, I see copies of the reprinted bulletins reasonably priced on e-bay frequently.

Good luck with your distributor.

I have now set up three of the earlier (Diver's Helmet) distributors on a V126 with the Dwell Scale.

I have run one of them.

The car is running better than it has in years!

Have you put two type D batteries in the wood box for power?

Yes, I have one too and love it! RAK402 has been supplying a lot of helpful information about them on the Early V8 Club Forum too. I was told that my fixture is one of the early models with the point contact post mounted on the side of the unit.

If you touch the one test lead to the frame of the test set the light should illuminate, If not: dead batteries, batteries installed improperly, broken wire, poor solder connection, bad light bulb.

After the distributor is bolted into the test set connect the one test lead to the connection point of the coil to the points. When testing place a piece of paper between the points not being tested, when finished remove the paper to see overall dwell.
