Fit too tight for grease? I lapped in my kingpin and pedal bushings. Grease goes into them but I really have to crank on the grease gun. Is this a problem?

Re: Fit too tight for grease? I did read about using a heat gun to get the area warm so the grease will flow easier.

Re: Fit too tight for grease? Had a project 54 Chevy. Couldn’t get the front zerts to take grease. Warmed them up with a small benzene torch. Worked great. Pushed some really old grease right out.

Re: Fit too tight for grease? Also as JT points out, after lifting the wheels off the ground, I lube the kingpins in my '46 Woodie with a shot of grease in the extreme left position and a shot in the extreme right position.

Re: Fit too tight for grease? the bushing next to the thrust bearing should have a passage that goes to the bearing that should take grease easilly and show excess around the thrust bearing

Re: Fit too tight for grease? I took the pedals out and put a small burr into the Dremel. I cut some shallow grooves out from the hole for the fitting, put a fresh tube of grease with Moly in the gun and it went in very nicely. Thanks guys!
As an aside, the grease that was in the gun had been leaking oil out for sometime and it was around freezing this morning when I started. It was hard as could be. Should I start with a fresh tube if the grease has been sitting for a long time and has left a puddle? |
