my 6volt coil died had an old one as a spare and fired rite up,its the modern type what the best coil for replacement..thanks guys

I will suggest Bosch, blue coil.
I don't have a part number.
Find out if it's internal or external resister.
I think it's internal...

Mallory used to sell a round-bottomed coil that actually said "The BEST coil I ever made, M. Mallory" right on it. I have one with the matching dual point distributor on my hot rod engine, and can't dispute his claim.

The Bosch is also a good choice and probably a little easier to find.

Here’s a picture of one of the coils that Tubman speaks of. I’ve never tested it, but I saved it cause it looks cool too.

I use the same one it's heavy duty. Hasn't failed me yet.

The best coil to use is a stock coil rebuilt by Skip Haney in Florida.

Oldschool, There is no doubt that Skip haney will rebuild your original Ford coil to last longer than most of us. Research Skip Haney and see this is a no brainer.

i have skips 3# radiator check valve ,i will send him an original coil over the winter,in the mean time i ordered bosch coil W/ internal resistor,the engine is a 59ab

If you want to get rid of that coil, let me know. If you have a multi-meter, you can test it. It should show single digits ohms resistance on the primary side and something over 10,000 ohms on the secondary.

Those things are cool and need to be used (if good).

Does Skip rebuild "Can" type coils?

The tried and true NAPA/Echlin IC7 is a good coil if they haven't changed the way they made them for umteen years. It's hard to say now that Standard Motor Parts has taken over. The IC10 is also a 1.5 Ohm coil.

Don't let voltage fool you on a can type coil. The can types are all about the internal resistance of the primary side. The 1.5 ohm coil is fine when run on 6 to 7-volts but will need a 1.3 to 1.5 ohm ballast resistor to function on 12 to 14-volts. The IC7 and IC10 ignition coils are both 1.5 ohm types as is the modern Bosch silver coil. Bosch states that it is a 2-ohm coil but I think they are rounding it up from 1.5-ohms or possible it is manufactured within that range. They are made in Brazil now days.
