Yes, the Hubcap in question is for the 1941 Mercury. In the above photo, you can see two different manufacturing processes. Refer to the back of them and see the differences. The one on the left is one piece, while the one on the right has a pressed in metal section, which rusts. In Australia, our 1946-1948 Ford Hubcaps were all one piece. Did the USA get the one piece hubcaps or do they all have that added metal section? What to readers think?

Here is a close up picture showing the two different manufacturing processes. You can see the rust starting on the hubcap on the right on the added metal piece. Were both styles available in the USA?

I have been collecting FoMoCo Hubcaps now for many years. I just collect a nice example of each year and model. When I saw that these two were different on the inside, I naturally kept both. What is unique with these two 1941 Mercury Hubcaps is that they are both painted in Military Olive Drab. From this, I believe that the vehicles that they came off served in Military Service. I could remove the paint and buff them up, but at this stage, I am leaving them as is.

Now wait a minute, Trevor! Do I need thicker glasses? From up here on the "TOP" end of the Earth, the painted cap in the first picture is NOT THE SAME as the caps that you (mercman "down under") just posted up above. The HORIZONTAL LINES run differently between the two. Or......DO I need thicker glasses? DD

Sure look like 1946, or 47, 48. I believe the 47 and 48 shared the same cap,
as do the 47 & 48 Ford

It has the appearance of a 39 Mercury hubcap but like Rockfla said, it doesn’t appear to be a 2-piece hubcap. Found a pic of the backside...

The 39 caps is somewhat flatter AND more square at the edge and is "actually" nowhere near the original posted cap!!

Not all 1939 caps were Ford Mercury.
Since we do not see the inside of the cap --- how about the stainless cover to a later 1939 Mercury cap?
Or.............these from my collection (sorry no back photos - I cant get to them to check)

Early and Late 1939 Mercury Hubcaps. When the 1939 Mercury was first released in late 1938, it was actually labelled as a Ford Mercury. However, the powers to be at Ford thought that it should be a stand alone make.
Now that I have my glasses on, the Hubcap in question does have the same design as the revised 1939 Mercury Hubcap, but it appears that it is a small "dog dish" hubcap, whereas, the 1939 Mercury has a centre piece that attaches to a larger base to fit the "wide five" bolt pattern. So the question still remains - what is that mystery Mercury Hubcap?

While the pattern of the Mercury script on this mystery hubcap is the same as the 1939 Mercury, this hubcap is obviously a "dog dish" hubcap and not applicable to the "skin" used on the 1939 Mercury Hubcaps. So the question still remains, what is this mystery hubcap? Maybe, it is an "after market" product?
