Anyone fitted a rear gas tank?

There was a horrific accident here last year when 2 men burnt to death in a 1930 coupe - the gas tank ruptured in a head-on collision. I have always worried about 10 galls of gas above my knees, and I'm thinking of fitting a tank under the bed of my RPU. Will a B or later V8 tank fit easily?

32 ford tanks have been installed in model a's. I had a tank made and put it under the pick up floor, filler neck went thru bed floor

One major driver behind VW's decision to stop selling 'beetles' in their original form in the U.S., but continued to sell it elsewhere in less litigious countries, were the mounting death toll arising from the location of its gas tank. I witnessed one; the poor soul never made it out of the car after the collision.

You can buy all sizes of gas tanks commonly used in race cars. I have a friend who makes them. Look at the Summit Racing website. I am sure you could find one that fits better then something out of a different car.

I seem to recall someone making a kit for Model A trucks that uses a "modern" gas tank. You do need to cut a filler hole in the bed.

Like to Deuce Roadster mentioned, you can get very nice looking spun aluminum or stainless tank that mount to the floor of the bed.

Not sure how you feel about polyethylene tanks, but I put one between trhe frame rails of my truck based woodie. Starting out as a pickup the tank was under the seat, and didn't work in my application. Can't for the life of me remember the source, but they were universal fit with many choices of tank size and locations of fittings. Never a speck or a flake of anything in my clear plastic filter and that's how I like it.

There is a company, Tank's Inc. that makes different size tanks. He may have one that works
