33 BB driveshaft?

I just noticed that the driveshaft tube on my 33 BB 157" wheelbase has a crack between the front knuckle joint and the next crossmember. Can this be welded or sleeved? Or do I have to pull everything and find a new intermediate tube? Gilda was right "It's always something!"

I don't see any problem with welding it.

Thank you, I will try it and see if it is happy with it.

I'd like to see a photo of the crack before offering any advice on whether welding it is a good idea.

Is this a shaft or a torque tube?

If welding a shaft, it will bow towards the weld when cooling. You can mitigate this by putting a roughly equal amount of weld on the opposite side to equal it up.

But not knowing where the crack is, it is impossible to offer good advice.

You probably know this anyway . If you remove the bolts holding the big tin cover to the back of the 4 speed you can slide the cover back down the tube . The big U/J is the two piece bolt together style . Take it apart and then you can remove the tube and get to it to weld the crack on your bench . It is fairly thin mild steel and will not distort if MIG welded . When it is apart you can change the seals in the front and rear "cups" .

This is an AA coupling shaft, the same as the BB except the shaft is a little smaller.
