When do you shift survey

I have set up a new survey on my web site. I think it would be interesting to see at what speeds people shift gears. See link below for survey page on my web site.

I shift by the sound of the eng. not by looking at the speedometer.

Like JoeWay, I get an internal server error too. Tried several times, no go.

Try it again. There may have been an error in the data file.

Still no. Tried a different computer and browser, also no go, same error. I have not had trouble with your surveys in the past, nothing changed on my end.

Re: When do you shift survey

The survey is working just ignore the error. It only happens AFTER your answers are collected. I will see if I can find the problem.

Re: When do you shift survey

Same error....however my '31 engine is about 100 HP and I have zephyr gears in a '39 transmission so my answers will probably skew the results!

Re: When do you shift survey

OK I think the Error is fixed. Please try again

Re: When do you shift survey

Bob,

Your totals for each answer seem to add up a bit high.

Interesting survey.

Survey is still open

I believe I have solved the Error problem. I will keep the survey open for about a week.

Re: When do you shift survey

Kind of makes a difference if I'm starting out headed up hill, down hill or on the level.
Same with down shifting. Down shifting coming to a stop or slow down or down shifting on a pull.

( Arrrrgh ! ) I think most of us do our general driving "shifting by ear", but it's kind of hard to quantify that for an owners manual or helping educate newbies....

(Or for taking a survey.)

;)

Re: When do you shift survey

I've only had my 31 Coupe a couple of months. But I have it running pretty nice now and am driving each day to learn how to shift. It is a pretty stock model. I'm having a problem shift up to 3rd...seems like shifting at about 15 goes right in with no clashing gears BUT the engine shudders in 3rd. If I try to shift at 20, I have to wait for the rpms to fall off enough enough so the gears don't clash...so I'm back to 15 anyhow and the engine shudders. How to shift smoothly at 20 without the roadspeed dropping off so much. Another question is that double clutching is not necessary UNLESS you are downshifting...is that right?

Pilotdave 06-08-2011 08:46 PM

Re: When do you shift survey

I double clutch on all my shifts - up and down. I think that when I get really good at listening to the engine and tranny and feeling what the tranny is telling me through the shifter, I may be able to stop the double clutching when shifting up!
