Evapo Rust question
 

This question is for Fordbarners that have used Evapo Rust. I would like to use some to remove the rust from some parts. I usually sandblast stuff, but with over a foot of snow on the ground, it will be a while until I can sandblast outside where I always do it. Here in MN it is to cold to do outside this time of year anyway. Are there any ill effects in doing the derusting in a shop or garage? I was thinking of putting some brake rods in a 2” PVC tube with Evapo Rust for derusting. I know using some acids will mess up tools and other things in the vicinity. Also, does the temperature make a difference? If I turn the heat off if could get down to almost freezing at night. Thanks for any help.

I am amazed everytime I use this stuff. No fumes no toxics. The worse they are the longer you should leave them alone. I put some parts away and came back 3 days later and all the rust was gone and the parts were undamaged.

Hi,
One part of your question still not answered is will it work in the cold. No it will not. Super,fantastic stuff but it slows down in its ability to remove rust the colder it gets. Evaporust can and does freeze. I have a block of Evaporust with parts waiting for warmer weather in the barn right now.
If you can't find a local retailer who sells it Evaporust is sold direct by the manufacturer. Thats how I started buying it, now I can get it local.
Currently searching for the perfect container to derust wheels!

Read or call the maker. It can only remove and hold so much rust. The rust stays suspended and once it has absorbed X amount that's all it will hold and working time will slow down and/or stop. Any parts put in it must be de-greased, it is a organic compound and grease effects it's working.
When it's fresh and new it works great.

All of these rust removal processes work much better with some heat. Chemical reaction or bacterial action. Below 50 it really slows down, optimum temp is probably around 90 without danger.
