coil question
 

This is an old question I posted a while back but it's come back to haunt me so I"ll try it again.
The shop manual for my stock 1951 8ba calls for an ignition coil with a primary resistance reading of 1.05 to 1.15 and a secondary reading of 4,100.
The Echlin coil listed for this car is a Ech lC7 that has a primary of 1.04 to 1.27 and a secondary of 7,700 to 9,500.
So according to the manual the secondary resistance on the Echkin coil is wrong or maybe it does not matter.
The 1951 year uses no external resister and the lC7 is labeled (no external resister required)
I guess I have to much time on my hands but this is bugging me. Is there a simple answer here?

I installed a new coil on my l949 last summer. It is a Napa Echkin #IC7 and it works just fine. I have one on my l950 also, put it on about 12 years ago. So now you can sleep better.

Basically it just a better coil. I'm sure Ford Motor Company used the minimum amount of windings in the secondary that produced adequate, reliable performance.

Then, as now, copper was relatively expensive. I second the "sleep better" comment.

The higher secondary resistance of the Echin coil indicates it has a capability of a higher secondary voltage than the original coil. This is not a problem
