Dipsticks-no, not my kids
 

I have an 8BA with an 8RT dipstick. I have two dipsticks (no teenage kids intended) the other one doesn't have a stamp of which motor it goes with. I cannot find anything on about which one might fit the 8BA. I also have a truck oil pan with a large 4-5" opening with a plug in the middle. God Bless.

Does anyone know the length of an actual 8BA dipstick for a Truck 8BA? I could always measure before I put it all together or drop the pan and make sure the stick full mark is out of the crank path. But, that is a pain as well since I lowered the front a bit.

If you in fact know the oil capacity of the whatever engine configuration you are using, then when the engine is filled with that amount of oil, that will show where the level on the dipstick should be.

Use the 8rt dipstick with the truck pan. Ones with no number are likely 48 and earlier

I don’t think the dipstick will interfere with the crank. The way I marked mine(aftermarket chrome) was to put 5 qts oil in, then insert stick. Full mark then scribed at oil level.

Dipstick lengths are sometimes posted in the appropriate chassis parts catalogs but not always. The 8RT has a rear sump that is deeper than the Mercury pan since they are for trucks. The Ford 8BA car engine is a center sump pan. You then have the shallower rear sump pan of the 8CM Mercury cars of 1949 thru 1951. They all changed again in 1952 for the EAB series and 1953 for the F100 stepped pan.

8RT-6750-B = 17 7/8"
8BA-6750-A = 18 15/32"

I believe these to be overall length. The tubes that screw into the pan boss have to be the correct length as well. This info comes from parts catalogs. Follow the 5 quart rule with some in the filter to find your full mark for adapting a new aftermarket dipstick.
